Love is in the air...

Happy February! As the bitter cold weather has kept us indoors, our students have been enjoying reading, singing, and making crafts about love. We've read books like Guess How Much I Love You? by Sam McBratney and I Love You the Purplest by Barbara Joosse, which explore the love of parents for their children; The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammed and Hats of Faith by Medeia Cohan, which dive into love of siblings and also community - we can love each other by learning more about each other! We've also learned the song "Magic Penny" by Malvina Reynolds, a lovely, timeless song about the value of love.

Cutting out hearts? Our Bluebirds are getting the knack! Making Valentines? Bluebirds and Salamanders love our Valentine-making post office. With flower arranging in our sensory bin, lots of fun books to read with our giant stuffed bears in our books corner, Duplo in the building center, and cars to drive around the wall and deliver those valentines on our hanging felt
board (which develops gross-motor skills in "heavy play"), we've been all set for the holiday!
Up next: Lunar New Year, followed by a unit on Africa as a lead-in to Black History Month.
